Abstract: For a growing number of adolescents and young adults, unplanned pregnancy, single parenting, and troubled relationships derail personal goals. Love Notes Abstinence Only (AO) was created for this vulnerable audience, some already pregnant or parenting. In 13 lessons, they discover—often for the first time—how to make wise choices about relationships, delaying sexual activity until marriage, pregnancy, partnering, and more. This version includes the most recent YRBS stats along with existing topics important to today’s youth, such as sex trafficking prevention, technology in relationships, navigating relationships in the digital age, sexual assault, consent—and their impact on relationships. Love Notes 4.2 AO still includes the evidence-based content plus supplemental materials, which allow facilitators to go deeper on topics that are meaningful to young people. Love Notes 4.2 AO aligns with all Executive Orders on DEI and gender. It’s unambiguous; the primary emphasis and context for each topic in Love Notes Abstinence Only is a message to youth that normalizes the optimal health behavior of avoiding nonmarital sexual activity. It does not include any contraceptive or family planning instruction.
