Money HabitudesTM Instructor’s Manual Each lesson in the Money HabitudesTM Instructor’s Manual is designed to be taught in 60 to 90 minutes. The lessons, journal, and card game can be used in many different ways, including: Lead a more in-depth program using the Money HabitudesTM Instructor’s Manual and Journal along with the cards Use the cards and Journal as an individual activity (great for home-schooling, parent-child discussions, alternative schools, etc) Use the Money HabitudesTM Cards as a stand-alone one-hour activity In conjunction with any curriculum on financial literacy and money management With both small and large groups in classrooms and community programs By counselors and therapists working with individuals To initiate a very informal conversational program or as a structured class with assignments Lesson Components There are five lessons in the Instructor’s Manual. Each lesson has an optional PowerPoint presentation that can be used to present the information to the group. Look for the PowerPoint icons in the Manual to know which slide corresponds with the teaching point. The lessons also include activity cards. These cards are in the back of the Manual binder. It is recommended that the cards be cut out, laminated, and reused by groups. A master of all activity cards are available as a digital download. The lesson worksheets are incorporated into the Journal. Journal page numbers are noted throughout the Instructor’s Manual. Each lesson in the Money HabitudesTM Instructor’s Manual contains the following sections: The Start It Up section serves as an introduction to the lesson. It is designed to be done individually and can be found in the Student Journal as well as displayed on a PowerPoint slide. Instructors may choose to open a class discussion based on the Start It Up section. The Act On It section includes a wide variety of interactive activities, games, role- plays, writing opportunities, and more. This section is designed to further extend the lesson. Thus, it is optional. Instructors should pick and choose which activities to use based on their situation (class need, time, setting, etc.) In most of the Act On It sections, the instructor is given two options: an individual activity or a group LESSON 1 | TEACHING MONEY HABITUDES | VII COPYRIGHT © 2011 BY THE DIBBLE INSTITUTE
