LESSON 5 75

Gather sculpting materials. (Materials are reusable.) You can lay out all the sculpting supplies
and have groups take what they need. It may save time to have 6 large zip lock bags (2-gallon
size) to put a couple of containers of Play-Doh, several colored pipe cleaners, several colored craft
sticks, some colored spice drops or mini-marshmallows, and toothpicks for each group to grab.
Be sure to have 6 sturdy paper plates for which they will create their sculptures upon.
Review the journal application Is It a Healthy Relationship? (pgs. 12–13).
Review Unmet Needs Activity Cards, Resource 5b. Select the ones you’ll use. If short on time, you
can have the entire group brainstorm advice for one or two of the scenarios.
5.3 suggests setting up a competition activity with prizes. Have prizes in preparation for this.
Review and then duplicate the 12 Tips for Teens handout (Resource 5c).
Optional: Duplicate Healthy or Unhealthy Relationships handout (Resource 5d).
Choose a song to play before class begins and as students enter. Consider playing music while
they create their sculptures. Any music works.
